How Should Satin Pajamas Fit? A Simple Sizing Guide

Buying pajamas online should be easy, but satin has its own personality. It drapes and slides instead of clinging, so the right size looks relaxed and elegant, while the wrong size can feel tight across the shoulders or too boxy.

Here’s how to get it right the first time.

What a good fit looks like

  • Shoulders: the shoulder seam sits at or just past your natural shoulder.
  • Bust: the buttons lie flat without pulling or gaping when you sit or reach.
  • Waist: the elastic waistband is snug enough to stay up but doesn’t dig in.
  • Hips and seat: you can sit cross-legged comfortably without tension in the fabric.
  • Length: long pants fall around the ankle, and shorts sit comfortably mid-thigh.

Pajamas are meant to move with you while you sleep, so a little ease (extra room) is a good thing.

How to measure yourself

Grab a soft measuring tape and measure over light clothing or none:

  1. Bust: around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level.
  2. Waist: around your natural waist, the narrowest part of your torso.
  3. Hips: around the fullest part of your hips and seat.

Then compare your numbers to the size chart on the product page. Charts can vary between brands and even between styles, so it’s worth checking every time.

Between two sizes?

Here’s our rule of thumb for sleepwear:

  • Size up if you like a relaxed, flowy fit, sleep on your side or move a lot at night, or if your bust or hip measurement is at the top of a size range.
  • Stay true to size if you prefer a neater look for lounging and photos.

Our satin includes 5% spandex for a bit of stretch, which helps with comfort, but a button-down top still needs room across the bust.

Short sets vs. long sets

With shorts, focus on the hip measurement and how you like the leg opening to feel. With long pants, also think about height. If you’re petite, a slightly longer hem can be cuffed. If you’re tall, look at the length measurement if it’s listed.

Buying as a gift?

If you don’t know the exact size, go with what she usually wears in loungewear, and lean toward the larger size if unsure. Include a gift receipt, too. Our sets have 30-day returns, so she can swap if needed.
